According to police, a juvenile was shot and killed on Thursday in West Philadelphia’s Kingsessing area. Just after 10:30 a.m., a 16-year-old boy was reportedly shot twice in the head on Grays Avenue close to 53rd Street.
Just before 11 a.m., after being taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in a hurry, he was declared dead.
A reason for the shooting has not yet been given by investigators. At the site, no weapons were found, and no one has been taken into custody.
A few blocks northwest of Bartram Gardens, on the 5300 block of Grays Avenue, several police vehicles could be seen around the shooting scene.
Police thought a residence on the block may have been the source of gunfire. Police set up a roadblock at the home where they thought three suspects were hiding around 12:40 p.m.
But when a SWAT team went inside, they discovered nobody there. Police reported finding blood, and the home is being held until they do their homicide investigation.

Homicides are down 11% from this time last year, according to data from the Office of the Controller, but 2023 is still on track to be one of the bloodiest years for the city on record.
At least 100 of the city’s more than 500 gunshots this year have resulted in fatalities. Of the gunshot victims, at least 54 were under the age of 18. Eight minors, at least, have died from gun violence.
