Another Georgia man is charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting one month after a Georgia man was discovered in a ditch alongside a South Carolina road and eventually passed away, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables, 24-year-old Stonecrest, Georgia, resident Jarvon Stapleton passed away on March 14. The Atlanta region includes Stonecrest.

According to a news release, Stapleton was discovered in a ditch on the side of Kitchings Road, close to Old Barnwell Road, earlier that day. A passing motorist had reported the incident to the sheriff’s office. That is in Aiken County’s Williston neighborhood.

According to Ables, responding deputies discovered Stapleton had been shot many times. According to the coroner’s office, the Georgia man was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers before being moved to Augusta University Medical Center, where he passed away. Stapleton had suffered head and hand gunshot wounds.

The sheriff’s office named Barry Junior Bellinger, a 37-year-old native of Lithonia, Georgia, as Stapleton’s murderer on Friday.

According to the sheriff’s office, Bellinger was taken into custody on Friday by the DeKalb County Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service on unrelated narcotics and weapon allegations.

Bellinger is likely to be extradited to Aiken County once the legal procedure for his current charges in Georgia is through, according to the sheriff’s office. Bellinger will be detained in the DeKalb County Jail during this time.

Bellinger, aka Alameen Mumin, will also face charges in Aiken County for kidnapping, carjacking, and possession of a weapon during a violent felony, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office stated that both men have connections to the Atlanta region, but it was unclear how Bellinger was related to Stapleton’s death.

No information was available on the shooting’s motive or the individuals from Georgia’s presence in Aiken County. There were no other recorded injuries.

The Williston Police Department and the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance in the investigation in addition to the sheriff’s office, coroner’s office, DeKalb County police, and U.S. Marshals.

According to the sheriff’s office, Stapleton’s family expressed their “deepest gratitude and are truly thankful to all the law enforcement officers and community members that help bring this man to justice.”
