According to the Oxnard Police Department, a 29-year-old male from Oxnard was shot in the stomach on Thursday night and passed away on Friday morning.
At 8:00 pm, reports of gunfire in the 600 block of Pacific Avenue prompted police to arrive. The block is a commercial district located approximately east of the Oxnard city center.
The man was discovered by police in a parking area with a single gunshot wound to his stomach. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for an urgent operation. According to officials, he passed away in the hospital at 5:13 am on Friday.
The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office withheld the victim’s identification pending notification of the family.
Separately, the department was looking into an early-Friday shooting by a police officer after a man is said to have approached the officer brandishing a knife.
The homicide that occurred in Oxnard on Thursday night in a parking lot is at least the second this year.
Kareem Medina, a 19-year-old resident of Lompoc, was stabbed on March 18 in a parking structure at the Collection at Riverpark shopping mall. The case has not resulted in any arrests.

The department’s violent crimes squad is looking into the homicide that happened on Thursday. There were no other details available right away.
