Who Was Billy Brown?
Brown grew up in the Inglewood area of Los Angeles County. For his role as Detective Mike Anderson on Showtime’s Dexter from 2011 to 2012, he is best known.
In the canceled FX series Lights Out, he played boxer Richard “Death Row” Reynolds. His break came in 2012 when he was cast as August Marks, a recurring character on Sons of Anarchy for both seasons five and six. In Transformers: Prime, he was the alternate voice of Cliffjumper. He played FBI agent Troy Riley in the pilot of The Following in 2013.
In the 2013–2014 season, Brown co-starred with Toni Collette on the CBS drama Hostages. The ABC legal drama How to Get Away with Murder, created by Shonda Rhimes and starring Viola Davis, cast him as a co-star in 2014. Brown made his film debut opposite Taraji P. Henson in the 2017 thriller Proud Mary, produced by Screen Gems. Brown has also been featured in Marine Corps recruitment spots.

The 911 call made by a member of the Alaskan Bush People production team during Billy’s seizure was even shown on the show’s episode airing on October 31. The later episodes of the show detailed the Brown family’s efforts to memorialize their late patriarch. Bear Brown, who co-stars with his father on the show, took to Instagram to confirm the sad news. He penned,
Billy Brown, our dearly loved patriarch, passed away from a seizure late last night, and we are devastated to share the news. We all loved and respected him immensely; he was the best of fathers, grandfathers, and husbands. He taught us how to live our best lives by doing things his way, off the grid and from the land.
We hope to carry on his dream and preserve his memory in the future. During this difficult time, we ask that you please respect our need for privacy and pray for us. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Discovery Officials Mourned Billy Brown Death
The official Discovery Twitter account shared the latest developments with their followers, saying:
To hear of Billy Brown’s untimely passing has left us in utter disbelief. He’s been a member of the Discovery crew for a long time, and everyone knows him as a pioneer, a nice guy, and a one-of-a-kind. Our deepest sympathies go out to his loved ones and all who knew and respected him on the occasion of his untimely passing.
Bear was especially saddened by the news, as he considered Billy to be his best friend and his hero. Despite his previous emotional breakdowns, the son was taken aback by his father’s death. However, ever since then, their mother Ami Brown has been their rock. Billy’s daughter Rain was leaning on Da during this difficult time, but she was also focused on gold mining on the ranch.
