In just its first two years on Netflix, Chris Van Dusen and Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton has become a cultural touchstone. The Regency-era romantic drama, which premiered on Netflix in 2020 and is now in its second season, continues to set new benchmarks for the streaming service. Season two of the show premiered in March 2022.
The second season of Bridgerton is the most-watched English-language TV series in Netflix history as of April 2022. Both seasons of the show were well-received by critics, who praised the show’s costumes, acting, dramatic and sexual themes, and diverse on-screen representation.
The ‘Ton universe is adored by its viewers. The show’s success was so great that it was renewed for a third and fourth season more than a year before the second season was supposed to air. Jess Brownell, who has worked on other Shondaland blockbusters like Scandal and Inventing Anna, will be the showrunner for season three.
With that in mind, dear reader, we have produced a guide to everything we know about Bridgerton Season 3, including new and returning cast members, narrative facts, and release dates.
When Will Season 3 of Bridgerton Come Out?
Season 3 has not yet been given a premiere date by Netflix. Previous seasons don’t provide much of a trend to follow, other than the fact that they’re typically issued two years apart.
Both the first season and the second season premiered on March 25, 2022. Season one was published on December 25, 2020. We have our fingers crossed for a 2023 premiere, but Season 3 is presently in production and expected to wrap in December 2022.
The Cast of Season 3 of Bridgerton
According to E! News, Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony Bridgerton, has confirmed that season 3 will begin filming in June.
The job of Francesca Bridgerton has been filled by the addition of Hannah Dodd, who will take over for Ruby Stokes. Here you can also see The Batman 2 Release Date And Is Cocaine Bear Based On A True Story?
According to Deadline, Hannah New, the star of Starz’s Black Sails, will play the fiery widow Lady Tilley Arnold. According to Deadline, Tilley is “living life on her own terms with financial independence and sexual freedom” after being “widowed at a young age” and “enjoying the benefits and power that come with being at the helm of her former husband’s estate.”
However, original cast member Phoebe Dynevor will not be returning, as she has confirmed to ScreenRant that she is not involved in the season 3 plot.
“Sadly [I’m] not in season three,” the actress revealed. “Potentially in the future. But in season three, I’m just excited to watch as a viewer.”
In Bridgerton Season 3, What Exactly Will Happen?
Lady Whistledown recently dropped the bombshell that the third season will focus entirely on her romantic arc.
Penelope Featherington herself, Nicola Coughlan, announced the casting change on Sunday at Netflix’s FYSEE event.
“Like Lady Whistledown, I have been harboring a secret for quite some time, and I can disclose to you all that season three is Colin and Penelope’s love tale,” she stated. My secret has been safe with me since episode two of season two.
Throughout the first two seasons, Penelope makes it apparent to the audience that she has feelings for her close friend Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton), but she never tells him. Towards the end of Season 2, however, it looks as though Colin starts to view Penelope in a new light, realizing that she has always been there for him.
Newton told Netflix, “There’s so much affection for that connection.” “Which creates certain pressures, as there are those who are eager for this tale to emerge. Nonetheless, it comforts me deeply.”
Since Julia Quinn’s third Bridgerton novel centers on Benedict Bridgerton and her fourth on Penelope and Colin, this new timeline deviates from the author’s original plan. Fans, however, are unlikely to be disappointed because they have been anticipating a change in the status of the friendship pretty much since the show’s inception.
“I feel like if you see Penelope fawning over this boy for another season, you’ll be like, ‘Get it together! Come on, move on and get over it,'” Coughlan said at the panel.
While maintaining her secret identity as Lady Whistledown, Penelope and Colin’s “relationship potentially blooms into something more,” as Netflix put it.
