Shotgun Wedding Movie Review
Shotgun Wedding comes up in 2023 just when you thought the year would be a good one for movies (thanks to the presence of a prehistoric shark). It isn’t even horrible in an existential sense, the kind of movie that makes you question your existence. Poorly executed and uninteresting, Shotgun Wedding is a terrible film. Seeing JLo confined to such a humiliating routine is even more upsetting.
Lopez’s character, Darcy, and Josh Duhamel’s character, Tom, are getting married on a picturesque Philippine island. Despite Marge, the manager’s best efforts, there is a lot of stuff to deal with at the wedding (Selena Tan from Crazy Rich Asians). Tom wants to give Darcy the perfect wedding while also convincing his in-laws that he is the proper guy for their newborn girl, but Darcy does not want her super-rich dad, Robert (Cheech Marin), to pay for it.
Jamie, Darcy’s (Callie Hernandez) wild kid of a sister, does not show up in time to do her hair because she is involved in some sort of mischief with Ricky, the best man (Desmin Borges). Darcy gets a “condo” on her noggin since Jamie isn’t around to rein in her future mother-in-law, Carol’s (Jennifer Coolidge) wild behavior.
While criticizing Tom as a groomzilla, Darcy’s mother, Renata (Sônia Braga), complains that Robert’s girlfriend, Harriet (D’Arcy Carden), is smiling at her. To watch this movie click here Shotgun Wedding
Darcy’s ex-boyfriend Sean (Lenny Kravitz) shows up for the wedding in a spectacular chopper entrance (even though he did not RSVP). All the guests, including Tom’s low-key father Larry, are won over by his heartfelt and funny recollections of his time with Darcy in the Peace Corps in Bali (Steve Coulter).
Then, as the guests are waiting for the bride to arrive, the pirates show up in the midst of the happy couple’s shouting session, complete with many “you said.” Shotgun Wedding is essentially Die Hard at a wedding, although I doubt that detective John McClane will be giving a hearty round of applause anytime soon.
In addition to being in poor taste, the jokes fall flatter than yesterday’s uthappam. There’s the romantic comedy, the action flick, the action comedy, and the Tarantino-style dismemberment with gouts of blood. It’s disappointing to report that this one does not qualify in any of those ways. There is a specific place in hell for terrible films like “Shotgun Wedding.”
