This week’s episode of CNBC’s “American Greed” will feature Hollywood legend and singer Jenifer Lewis (“Black-ish”) talking about her brief relationship with con artist Antonio Mariot Wilson. Her frightening experience sparked an FBI investigation, which finally resulted in Wilson’s imprisonment.

After meeting Lewis, alleged businessman Antonio Mariot Wilson, also known as “Dr. Tony Mariot,” “Brice Carrington,” and “Oscar-winning sound designer,” claims to be a Navy SEAL, Oxford scholar, UCLA professor, and tycoon in the making. Sadly, none of that was accurate. Lewis, though, had a few supportive friends who encouraged her to delve further.

In truth, Wilson was a charming con artist who for years pretended to be someone else—including his ex-girlfriend, television personality Jenifer Lewis—in order to defraud unwary investors. Wilson was forced to make restitution after Lewis enlisted the big guns!

However, when Lewis learned the truth, she exposed the red carpet Romeo and sparked an FBI investigation, which led to Wilson’s eventual guilty plea to wire fraud in 2020 and an eight-year prison sentence for him in 2021.
