John Cleese Cancel Culture: Has He Blacklisted Himself?

John Cleese Cancel Culture: Has He Blacklisted Himself? John Cleese has canceled himself.

After a fellow attendee was “blacklisted” by “woke” staff and students at Cambridge University, the British comic icon, who is 82 years old, stated on Tuesday that he is canceling a performance that was scheduled to take place there.

Cleese, who is a graduate of Cambridge, turned to Twitter to make the following statement: “I was looking forward to talking to students at the Cambridge Union on Friday, but I hear that someone there has been blacklisted for performing an impersonation of Hitler.” Cleese is an alumnus of Cambridge.

“I did the same thing on a Monty Python show, and it’s something I regret doing, so I’m blacklisting myself now before someone else does it.”

The comedian then sent out a second tweet in which he addressed his 5.6 million followers and apologized to anyone at Cambridge who had hoped to speak with him, saying “I apologize to anyone at Cambridge who was hoping to talk with me, but perhaps some of you can find a venue where woke rules do not apply.”

Both “Fawlty Towers” and “Monty Python” featured Cleese performing an impression of Adolf Hitler.

The news of the BAFTA winner comes after art historian Andrew Graham-Dixon was denied permission to speak at an event hosted by the Cambridge Union.

According to a story in the Times, Graham-Dixon “did a mock-Hitlerian outburst” last week while participating in an academic debate in order to “caricature Hitler and his views.” He has since issued an apology and stated that his goal was to bring attention to “the completely depraved nature of the Nazis.”

Cleese has been vocal about his opposition to the “woke” culture for a long time, arguing that political correctness kills humor.

In the previous year, the comedian lashed out at the BBC for removing an episode of his sitcom from the 1970s called “Fawlty Towers” because it contained a “racist slur.”

Cleese referred to the network’s programming executives, who eventually decided to bring back the episode in question, as “they are so spineless, gutless, and disgusting.”

In addition, Cleese has been accused of transphobia after he backed the author of “Harry Potter,” J.K. Rowling, in the context of an online discussion.

“At my core, I wish to serve as a law enforcement officer in Cambodia. Is it possible, or am I expecting too much from myself? Cleese sent out the tweet in response to a user who had asked why he couldn’t “simply let people be who they want to be.” He continued by saying, “I’m afraid I’m not that interested in trans folks,” later on.

It was revealed earlier this year that Cleese will star in a new series named “John Cleese: Cancel Me,” which would examine the culture of the “woke” generation.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to have the opportunity to learn about all of the facets of so-called political correctness while doing it on camera. According to what he said to the Irish Times, “there is a great deal that I genuinely don’t understand.”
