Josh Smith Of The Texas Rangers Was Taken To The Hospital After Being Struck On Face With Pitch

Josh Smith, left fielder for the Texas Rangers, was hit in the face by a pitch as the team was playing the Baltimore Orioles on Monday in Arlington, Texas. The organization confirmed on Monday that Smith was transported to a local hospital after the incident.

Smith was hit on the right side of his face, close to his jaw, by an 89-mph pitch that was misplaced by the Orioles pitcher Danny Coulombe in the bottom of the third inning. Smith was the left fielder for the Baltimore Orioles.

Almost instantly, the player, who was 25 years old at the time, slid down to the ground and was seen clawing at his face before a medical attendant with the Rangers attended to him.

You can see the video when Josh Smith got smashed by the ball in the below tweet.

Smith, who was able to get up and walk off the field on his own, was transported to the hospital, where the team later tweeted that he is getting “additional scans and tests on his face and jaw.” Smith was brought to the hospital after he was able to get up and walk off the field on his own. Ezequiel Duran, who was serving as a pinch runner, took his place.

We did end up taking him to the emergency room. “He did some CT tests, and they came out clear – so that’s excellent news,” stated Bruce Bochy, the manager of the Texas Rangers, during a postgame news conference.

“As I speak right now, he’s feeling better, and tomorrow, we’ll just reevaluate and see where we’re at,” Bochy added. “He’s feeling better than he was.”
