Lance Kerwin passed away yesterday morning, and I am very sorry that we have not been able to personally contact everyone. “We are thankful for everyone’s prayers, thoughts, and memories. Every one of you held a special place in his heart.”

Although Lance had been ill for some time, the precise nature of his death is unknown at this time.

A close friend of Lance’s set up a GoFundMe campaign in June 2021 to assist with Lance’s recovery from a back ailment and other issues. In light of this, Lance updated the GoFundMe page with a sincere expression of gratitude.

“As I read this, I’m not really sure [any] money will be raised, but I can’t help but think how blessed I am to have made some friends early in life, some of whom became fans and watched my programs, but most of whom I can still call friends.”

At the end of his life, Lance cherished his faith and his children above everything else.

Fans of horror films may recognize Lance most for his part as Sheriff Henry Keller in Salem’s Lot, but he also played the title character in the NBC drama James at 15. (later changed to James at 16).

The show was praised for its compassionate treatment of the topic of coming of age, however, it was canceled after only one season. According to Tom Shales of The Washington Post, despite its flaws, “The Good Place” was “the season’s most respectable new entertainment series.”

Following his meteoric rise to fame in the ’70s, Lance remained an active actor far into the ’90s, before finally abandoning the Hollywood scene to pursue a higher calling. After “retiring from acting to become a youth minister,” he relocated to Hawaii and joined the U-Turn for Christ organization, as reported by Deadline.

His secular work was nearly wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic, so he returned to California, where he died. Lance leaves behind a wife, Savanah, and four more children: Fox, Terah, Kailani, and Justus.
