With the arrival of the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid on the horizon, she is almost prepared to rejoin our world.
Since it was first announced that the most recent Disney live-action remake would be released in early 2021, fans have been guessing about what it will look like. The majority of the filming was done at London’s renowned Pinewood Studios after being postponed because of the pandemic.

The current release date for The Little Mermaid in the UK and the US is May 26, 2023. Disney fans may have to wait a bit longer than anticipated to return to the sea, as the COVID-19 outbreak caused two delays in the film’s original filming schedule.

Cast Of The Little Mermaid
The live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid makes it quite evident that the cast will be significantly star-studded.
The R&B duet Chloe x Halle member Halle Bailey, who is best known for playing the lead role of Ariel, was announced to take on the role in 2019.
She has performed in other films such as Grown-ish and Last Holiday. She previously collaborated with Disney on a role in Let It Shine.
Favorite from Bridesmaids Melissa McCarthy will portray Ursula, and Jonah Hauer-King from Little Women will play Prince Eric.
King Triton will also be portrayed by No Country for Old Men and Skyfall actor Javier Bardem. Despite the majority of the movie being live-action, there will also be a few significant voice roles.
Daveed Diggs from Hamilton will play Sebastian, and Jacob Tremblay from Room will play Flounder, another loyal companion of Ariel.
Awkwafina, who played Scuttle in Ocean’s 8, will also be providing the voice of the character, who will now be a female diving bird rather than the male seagull from the original movie.
Little Mermaid’s Known Plot
Fans can anticipate that most of the key classic components of The Little Mermaid will remain the same, following in the footsteps of earlier Disney live-action remakes like Aladdin and Mulan. Ariel will have significantly more influence in the live-action adaptation, according to Halle Bailey.
According to Bailey’s interview with Edition magazine, “I’m really excited for my version of the film because we’ve definitely changed that perspective of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy.” It is much larger than that. It’s about her, her life, her goals, her independence, and her purpose.
“As women, we are amazing, independent, modern, we are everything and above,” she continued. I appreciate Disney’s efforts to modernize some of those ideas.
Given the addition of several new songs on the soundtrack, viewers are likely to notice a few minor adjustments along the way. Additionally, characters have been changed to fit the new 2023 cast.

“The Little Mermaid is the well-known tale of Ariel, a young mermaid who is lovely and spirited and has a passion for adventure. Ariel, the most rebellious and youngest of King Triton’s daughters, longs to learn more about the world above the water. While visiting the surface, she develops feelings for the handsome Prince Eric.
While interacting with humans is illegal for mermaids, Ariel must do what she feels is right. She strikes a pact with the wicked sea witch Ursula that allows her to taste life on dry ground but eventually jeopardizes her life and her father’s throne.
Little Mermaid Trailer
Yes. Disney unveiled the main trailer for The Little Mermaid on March 12 at the Oscars. Watch it up there. The biggest trailer for a live-action Disney film since 2019’s The Lion King, it received 108 million global views in only 24 hours, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The teaser has received negative feedback from some trolls on YouTube, but it has also sparked a number of touching reaction videos from young viewers all across the world. Bailey said the world’s reaction to the trailers was “definitely a shock,” but “seeing all the babies’ reactions, all the brown and Black young girls, really tore me up emotionally.”
