Although it shares a name with a game released in 2014, the grandeur and ambition of Lords of the Fallen are substantially greater. Hexworks has extended not just the story but also the universe of Lords of the Fallen, providing players with a massive territory to explore and a wide variety of adversaries and monsters.
So far, Lords of the Fallen seems like one of 2023’s most anticipated video games. It has created quite an impression because of its fast-paced yet weighty gameplay, which sets it apart from titles like Elden Ring, which definitely influenced the development team.
We were able to get our hands on Lords of the Fallen earlier this year, and our impressions were that its sophisticated combat and unique flavor made it stand out from other soulsborne games.

Lords of the Fallen Release Date
On Friday, October 13, 2023, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam PC will all get access to the game Lords of the Fallen. A new gameplay teaser released in May 2023 validated a leak from the trustworthy leaker ‘ALumia_Italia’ from earlier that month.
This game is a current-gen exclusive, meaning it won’t be coming to older platforms or the Nintendo Switch. This is bad news for anyone planning to play on a previous-generation system, but ideally it will lead to a more spectacular final product.
Teasers for Lords of the Fallen
In May 2023, CI Games published a nearly four-minute gameplay reveal trailer, showcasing a dark fantasy style and narrative that gives FromSoftware a run for its money.
It’s evident that FromSoftware’s Souls-like concept is being taken to the limits in Lords of the Fallen. The creative director of Lords of the Fallen, Cezar Virtosu, gave PCGamesN a detailed presentation at GDC in early 2023, discussing the game’s Jedi fantasy magic system, the ability to place bonfires, and the implications of these features for resource management and difficulty.
Gameplay of Lords of the Fallen
Lords of the Fallen’s most appealing feature is the option to travel between the Axiom, the realm of the living, and the Umbral, the domain of the dead. A person must give up a life in order to travel between worlds; if they die in Axiom while fighting an adversary, they will be reborn in the same spot in Umbral.
During an interview with PCGamesN at Gamescom 2023, Hexworks’ creative director Cezar Virtuso and art director Alexandre Chaudret expressed optimism that Lords of the Fallen’s novel approach to environment building in the Souls-like genre will set it apart from the competition.
You can learn more about the Umbral Lamp, its ability to transport you between the worlds of light and black, and its usefulness in both exploration and fighting in the game’s extensive gameplay video, which can be viewed above. However, we also know from experience that lingering in the hereafter increases the number of those out to get you.
In addition to the single-player narrative, you may now go on an online co-op journey with a friend, a feature that was absent from the 2014 game and, to a lesser extent, many Souls-likes.
