Man Is Detained And Charged With Killing A 15-year-old Girl In A Shooting In West Columbus

After a shooting earlier this week in west Columbus that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl, a man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, Kevin Lopez, age 18, was apprehended and charged with the murder of Maria Guerra-Sandoval, age 15.

López was charged with the murder of Maria Guerra-Sandoval. According to the documents filed with the Franklin County Municipal Court, Lopez used a weapon capable of semi-automatic fire to bring about her death.

At around 5:25 p.m. on April 3, officers responded to a complaint regarding a female victim who was located outside in the 4700 block of Sullivant Avenue and did not appear to be breathing. According to the police, officers received a call about the victim.

According to the documents filed with the court, Lopez stated that Guerra-Sandoval shot herself. Nevertheless, the evidence found by the investigators contradicts Lopez’s allegation, leading them to assume that the wounds were not self-inflicted.

During Lopez’s arraignment, his defense attorney stated that his client had turned 18 years old during the same week that the incident occurred and that he is currently a junior at Franklinton Prep High School.

He has a bond set at one million dollars and is now being held at the Franklin County Prison.
