Miami-dade Teacher Was Charged With Child Abuse After Breaking A Boy's Arm

A 12-year-old kid’s arm was broken by a Miami-Dade teacher on Monday while he was attempting to stop the boy from play fighting with other students, according to officials.

Joel Insilo, 30, of Miami Beach, is employed by KIPP Miami Public Schools, according to his arrest report.

Insilo announced on social media a few weeks ago that he had accepted a position as KIPP Miami’s dean of students for the 2023–2024 academic year.

At the school, which is located at 3000 NW 110th St., Insilo allegedly grabbed the victim by both arms and threw him, causing the kid to tumble and land on his left arm.

When the youngster arrived at Jackson Memorial Hospital, it was found that his left arm had been broken.

Insilo responded to the police station following the event, per the teacher’s arrest record, and gave officers a statement; this comment was redacted from the report that was made publicly available.

He was sent to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after being taken into custody on suspicion of severe child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.

Insilo appeared in bond court on Tuesday and was given the mandate to keep a minimum of 20 feet away from the victim at all times and to avoid any direct or indirect contact with them.

A representative at KIPP Miami issued a statement to Local 10 News on Tuesday that read, “We are profoundly grieved to confirm that a student was hurt yesterday on campus.” “Our teachers acted quickly to see that everyone received medical care.

Authorities have opened an investigation, and we are cooperating completely with them. The involved employee was kicked off campus and no longer works for KIPP Miami as of the time of the occurrence. We are striving to support the student’s family at this difficult time and are in constant contact with them.
