Michelle Branch Divorce: Has She Filed For Divorce?

Michelle Branch Divorce: Has She Filed For Divorce? After three years of marriage, singer Michelle Branch and Patrick Carney of the Black Keys have filed for divorce.

Branch, 39, filed a six-page complaint in Nashville on Friday, less than 24 hours after she was jailed on a misdemeanor domestic abuse charge at the couple’s home. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

It has been established in court that “the parties are no longer capable of resuming their marital relationship and living together as husband and wife.”

The “Everywhere” singer wants primary custody of her two children with Carney and child support. There is evidence in the court documents that she also sought to be identified as Carney’s life insurance policy’s beneficiary.

The branch is asking the court for an approved permanent parenting plan and she and Carney, 42, have to go to a mandatory parenting session as part of their divorce.

USA TODAY is attempting to contact Branch’s and Carney’s representatives for comment.

On Thursday, Branch shared the news that she and Carney were no longer together. They have a son who will turn four this month and a daughter who will be six months old.

“To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family. The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward,” Branch wrote in a statement released to USA TODAY Thursday. “With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”

On the same day, investigators from the Metro Nashville Police Department visited the couple’s house and arrested Branch after she admitted to slapping Carney in the face at least once during the couple’s fight.

An officer noted that Carney showed no outward signs of injury in the report.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Michelle Branch filed for divorce from her spouse of seven years, Patrick Carney of the Black Keys, on Friday in Davidson County, Tennessee. She apparently filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences,” and asked for primary custody of their 6-month-old daughter and 4-year-old son, as well as child support. She requests legal fees and states that she will allow “reasonable parenting” time in the agreement. Pitchfork has contacted the people representing Branch and Carney.

Branch tweeted an accusation of cheating against Carney on Thursday, August 11. They announced their split in a statement that she later published. How she felt for herself and her family was “completely crushed,” she wrote. The floor has been yanked out from under me, and I need to find out what to do next.

The next day, August 12, news spread that on August 11 Branch had been arrested and charged for domestic abuse. On the same day, she posted bond and was released. According to reports, Branch was arrested after telling police that she smacked Carney “one to two times.” It has been stated that Carney told authorities that Branch slapped him as well, despite the fact that he showed no outward signs of injury.
