Shannen Doherty Responds to Alyssa Milano: Addressing Alyssa Milano’s denial that she was involved in Shannen Doherty’s exit from Charmed, Doherty became tearful on Sunday. During her appearance on a panel for the cult program at MegaCon Orlando, Doherty spoke out about the incident, shedding tears. Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan also participated.
The star of 90210, Beverly Hills, made news in December after claiming, along with Combs, that Milano orchestrated Doherty’s 2001 dismissal from Charmed. In response to the accusation, 51-year-old Milano said she is “sad that people can’t move past it” during Friday’s Who’s the Boss? panel at MegaCon Orlando.
The late TV producer Aaron Spelling and the studio were blamed, according to Milano’s Instagram post over the weekend, who added, “I did not have the power to get anyone fired.”
She claimed that the studio decided after listening to the recommendations of a professional mediator assigned to the behind-the-scenes investigation. “Once Shannen left, we had 5 more successful seasons and I am forever grateful.”
On Sunday, though, Doherty remained steadfast in her claim, assuring MegaCon Orlando attendees that “a lot of things have been said and a lot have been very hurtful.”
Continuing, the actress read from notes she had written the night before, explaining that she was being honest about what happened “as opposed to the narrative that others put out there for me.”
My podcast, Let’s Be Clear, was not rude, and neither was Holly. “We went in and we cut out anything that we thought would cause more drama,” Doherty explained. The truth does matter, so we just said it like it is. However, we sought to spare you, the fans, as much pain as we could.
The actress’s diagnosis has affected her thoughts on the topic, as she is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her bones.
“It is extremely important to me that the truth be told, rather than the narrative that others have provided me with, at this stage in my life with my health diagnosis—I apologize if I begin to cry—with fighting a terrible disease every day,” she stated.
In addition, Doherty stated that she and Combs were united in their assertions and that they were standing by their truths. The reality that we told does not involve any revisionist history, as far as I am aware. For months on end, there is no mediator and no lateness to set. As if I were still a part of it all, I can vividly remember the details.
“What somebody else may call drama, is an actual trauma for me that I have lived with for an extremely long time,” the Heathers actress continued, her voice trailing off as she opened up about her experiences.
In order to recover from the loss of a means of subsistence, it was only after my cancer diagnosis that I made the decision to face this trauma head-on and be completely transparent about it.
Someone else’s desire to be named first on the call sheet deprived my family of a means of subsistence. Doherty came to the conclusion that it was true. The 50-year-old McGowan said, “We’ve protected you for a long time, we’ve done it for as long as we could.” We are all in.
A quote by comedian Katt Williams was subsequently shared by her. “He has a wonderful saying, ‘Winners do not let losers rewrite history,'” Last but not least, McGowan departed the stage escorted by Doherty and 50-year-old Combs.
In a December episode of Doherty’s podcast, on which Combs was appearing, news of Milano’s alleged role in Doherty’s dismissal resurfaced.
Combs asserted that show producer Jonathan Levin acknowledged that Milano was responsible for Doherty’s departure as they spoke about the supposed feud between Doherty and Milano.
Unfortunately, we’ve found ourselves in a situation where we can only choose between two options, which is not what we intended. He threatened to sue us for creating a hostile work environment, and Alyssa warned us it was either her or Shawn. This was what Combs recalled him saying.
The move perplexed Doherty. “I spent the year after that trying to piece together what happened and reliving all of those feelings,” Doherty remembered of her time with Milano beginning.
“I don’t ever remember being mean to her on set.” She further asserted that following her uterine tumor surgery, Milano and her mother forbade her from visiting Combs in the hospital.
