The title, artwork, teaser trailer, and November 3 release date for the third Sumikko Gurashi anime movie were all unveiled on Thursday by the movie’s official website. Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Tsugihagi Kjo no Fushigi na Ko (The Mysterious Child of the Makeshift Factory) is the name of the movie.
The third movie at Fanworks is being directed by Hazumu Sakuta (Neko no Dayan, Uch Nanchara Kotetsu-kun). Takashi Sumita (Europe Kikaku), who wrote the script for the first movie, is back to write the third one. The first and second film’s narrators, Yoshihiko Inohara and Manami Honj, will reprise their roles for the third movie.
The characters in the third movie stumble upon an old structure in the middle of a wilderness. It turns out that the structure is a toy factory. They all start making toys in the factory, with Penguin? checking the finished products under a microscope and Shirokuma employing his sewing machine expertise. The factory itself, though, conceals something more unique.
Sumikko Gurashi made their debut in 2012 as figures who prefer to hang out in the corner of a room. The characters include “Shirokuma,” a sensitive polar bear, “Penguin?” (with a question mark in its name), a penguin that is unsure if it is really a penguin, “Tonkatsu,” a piece of unfinished pork cutlet, “Neko,” a reserved cat, and “Tokage,” a dinosaur who hides his true nature as one of the last of its kind.
Sumikkogurashi – Good to be in the Corner, the first anime movie, debuted in Japan in November 2019. In the end, 1.22 million tickets were sold for the movie, and as of February 2020, it had brought in 1.4 billion yen ($12.8 million) in Japan. In June 2020, the film earned the Best Animation of the Year prize at the 29th Annual Japan Movie Critics Awards.
