Tom Petty Cause Of Death: What Was The Reason Behind His Death?

American musician Thomas Earl Petty was the lead singer and guitarist for the rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which got together in 1976. On October 2, 2017, he died. Before we tell the story of how he died, we will talk about his life.

Who Was Tom Petty?

Petty was born in Gainesville, Florida, on October 20, 1950. He was the first of his parents’ two sons. His mother, Kitty Petty (nee Avery), worked at the local tax office, and his father, Earl Petty, was a traveling salesman. Bruce, his brother, was seven years younger than he was. He became interested in rock and roll music when he met Elvis Presley when he was ten years old.

In the summer of 1961, his uncle was working on the set of Elvis Presley’s movie Follow That Dream in nearby Ocala. He invited Petty to watch the filming. He became an Elvis fan right away, and when he came back the next Saturday, his friend Keith Harben was there to greet him. He soon traded his Wham-O slingshot for a collection of Elvis 45s. “Elvis was glowing,” Petty said of that meeting with Presley.

In an interview from 2006, Petty said that the first time he saw the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show, he knew he wanted to be in a band. “When I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show, I knew there was a way out, and so did thousands of other guys. It was clear how to do it. You get your friends and you’re a self-contained unit. The music is made by you. And it seemed like such a good time. Also, read about Jessi Combs Death

It was something I could understand. I had never been a big sports fan, but I was a big Elvis fan. But I really saw something I could do in the Beatles. I was sure I could do it. It didn’t take long before groups started meeting in garages all over.” At age 17, he quit high school to play bass with the band he had just started.

Petty told the CBC in an interview in 2014 that the Rolling Stones were “my punk music.” He said that the group gave him hope by showing him that he and other musicians could make it in rock and roll.

Tom Petty Cause Of Death

In the early morning of October 2, 2017, Petty was found unresponsive and not breathing at his home. His heart had stopped. He was brought back to life and taken to the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California, where he died at 8:40 p.m. PDT after rumors that he had died all day were wrong. On October 16, 2017, four days before his 67th birthday, a memorial service was held at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in Los Angeles.

On January 19, 2018, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said that Petty had died of “multisystem organ failure due to resuscitated cardiopulmonary arrest due to mixed drug toxicity,” which Rolling Stone Magazine said was an “accidental overdose.”

In a statement on his official website, Petty’s wife and daughter said he had a number of health problems, including emphysema, knee problems, and “most importantly, a fractured hip.” For these problems, he was given painkillers and told on the day he died that his hip injury had gotten worse. The sentence said, “We think that the pain was just too much for him to handle, which is why he took too many drugs. We’re sure that, as the coroner found, this was just a bad accident.” Also, read about David Cassidy Cause Of Death

On September 28, 2018, Petty’s wife Dana gave an interview to Billboard. In it, she said that Petty had put off hip surgery for a long time, even though his doctors had suggested it.

“He knew it would be his last tour, and he owed it to his long-term crew, some of whom had been with him for decades, and to his fans.” Dana said that the day before Petty died, he was in a good mood: “Those three shows were in Los Angeles. He had never been so happy, proud, and excited about the future, and now he’s gone.”
