Rep. Bryan Slaton, R-Royse City, is under investigation following allegations that he had an inappropriate contact with a Congressional intern.
As a result of these allegations, two state politicians have called for his resignation. The charges were first published by The Texas Tribune.
The events that have taken place over the past few days in the Texas House scream out all that is wrong with a portion of the state’s elected representatives.
Regrettably, calling [Slaton’s] behavior ‘inappropriate’ is a massive understatement,” state Representative Steve Toth, a Republican who represents The Woodlands, said on social media on Tuesday morning. It is necessary for him to step down.
Toth stated in an interview that took place on Tuesday morning that Slaton’s alleged conduct had caused his wife to feel ashamed, and that the congressman need to resign in order to care for his family. Toth made this statement.

Toth is the second lawmaker to demand for Slaton to step down from his position, and he is a fervent social conservative who is typically politically allied with Slaton.
On Friday, state Representative Briscoe Cain, a Republican from Deer Park, criticized Slaton on Twitter without naming him. This was before the charges against Slaton became public knowledge.
Cain expressed his anger toward a Republican online, writing, “I am tremendously enraged at a [R]epublican whom I perceive to be a sexual predator.” “I’ve never had such a bone to pick with another lawmaker before.”
Cain has recently clarified that he was talking about Slaton all along.
On Tuesday, at least one Democratic House member added their voice to the chorus of criticism. The Democratic representative for Richardson, Ana-Maria Ramos, stated that she agreed with the calls for Slaton to stand down from her position.
