Who is Bradley Jackson Based on: Reese Witherspoon Says She Is Not Like Bradley Jackson

Who is Bradley Jackson Based on: As expected, Reese Witherspoon stars and executive produces the new AppleTV+ series The Morning Show. Witherspoon will be most visible to viewers as Bradley Jackson, a local reporter recruited to The Morning Show when a viral video of her feisty personality (and major TV potential) goes viral. Did any outspoken reporters inspire Bradley Jackson?

Her TV news world should be fairly familiar. After Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) gets fired for sexual misbehavior, Jackson replaces him on the Morning Show to shake up Alex Levy, the longtime co-host (Jennifer Aniston). After the allegations against the former co-host, the producers need to liven up the show, and Jackson seems ideal. As they try to find their new roles on and off-screen, Jackson and Levy fight for control.

You may have noticed that Bradley Jackson looks different. Witherspoon’s mousy brown wig has been changed by a cheerful blonde that matches The Morning Show’s vibe. The appearance was abandoned for more than character. Witherspoon tells us more.

Who is Bradley Jackson Based on?

Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell have both said in several interviews that their Morning Show personas are not based on any real persons. Although there are similarities between their personalities, Matt Lauer, who was let off from the Today program in 2017 due to sexual misconduct charges, and his replacement, Savannah Guthrie, are more striking.

The new Apple series follows a similar plot to the original: Alex Levy (Aniston) had worked with her co-anchor Mitch Kessler (Carell) for 15 years until learning, at 2 a.m., that he has been fired after a sexual misconduct investigation. She, like Guthrie before her, must strive to hold the program together after delivering the news of Lauer’s resignation live on television.

Only Reese Witherspoon’s character, the tough local news reporter Bradley Jackson (whom she portrays), feels out of place. According to her own words in the promotional material, she is a free spirit who doesn’t “fit the mold of a morning anchor” or “any mold.” Unlike Alex and Mitch, Bradley doesn’t seem to have a direct real-world equivalent.

To make room for new, younger blood in the network, Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) employs Bradley as a destabilizer. However, star and EP Reese Witherspoon insists there is no competition.
