The reason behind Kelly Clarkson’s recent weight loss is being discussed openly. After “King of Queens” star Kevin James complimented Clarkson on Monday’s “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Clarkson disclosed that she had a health scare.
“I was told I was pre-diabetic,” Clarkson recalled. “That was literally what happened … and, well, I wasn’t shocked. I was a tiny bit overweight.” She added: “Then I waited two years,” after which she “had to do something about it.”
Last month, Clarkson spoke with People and said that she had lost weight because to the lifestyle adjustments she had adopted after moving to New York from Los Angeles. “Walking in the city is quite the workout,” she said. “And I’m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down.”
She disclosed, “I eat a healthy mix” when asked about her eating habits. Following my doctor’s orders has helped me lose weight; for the past two years, I was disobedient. The majority of the time, I succeed because eating a protein-rich diet benefits my health. “Sorry, vegetarians everywhere, but I’m a Texan and I love meat!”
Clarkson, like many Hollywood women, has been the target of relentless media attention over the years due to her weight. She explained to Hoda Kotb of “Today” in 2018 that she had lost 37 pounds as a “side effect” of modifying her eating habits, which she said had helped alleviate symptoms of a thyroid problem.
“I know the industry loves the weight gone, but for me it wasn’t [about] the weight,” she said at the time. “For me, it was ‘I’m not on my medicine any more.’”
In an interview with Glamour UK published in 2020, Clarkson reflected on her “heaviest point” when she was hired as a coach on “The Voice.” According to her, that was a positive experience.
“Paul [Mirkovich, music director of ‘The Voice’] hired me from NBC because he loved my personality, he loved that I connect with people and I’m really raw and real,” she said. “It had nothing to do with my s*x appeal or my look aesthetically. It had to do with me as a person. I think it’s really up to artists to force people to have that mentality.”
