A coroner has determined that George Michael’s death was caused by liver and heart illness. According to Darren Salter, senior coroner for Oxfordshire, the pop artist had fatty liver, dilated cardiomyopathy, and myocarditis.
On Christmas Day, the musician passed away at the age of 53 in his Oxfordshire home in Goring-on-Thames. The coroner determined that there was no need for an inquest because the death had a “natural cause of death.”
Initial post-mortem results were deemed “inconclusive” by Thames Valley Police, who first stated that his death was unexplained but not suspicious. In a statement, the coroner said: “The final post-mortem report has been received, and the investigations into George Michael’s death have been completed.”
“The investigation is being terminated and there is no need for an inquest or any other additional inquiries. Dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver are the established natural causes of death.”
“No further updates will be provided, and the family requests that the public and media respect their privacy.”
On death certificates, the causes of death are described in medical language, but not all the risk factors that contributed to the death are mentioned. Three ailments are listed by George Michael: fatty liver, myocarditis, and dilated cardiomyopathy.

The artist was found “lying peacefully in bed,” according to Fadi Fawaz, the singer’s boyfriend at the time of his death, who told the Telegraph in late December.

The Thames Valley Police announced that their investigation into Michael’s death was finished after the coroner’s report.
