The family of young Bush recorded almost fifty of her creative compositions on a demo tape. The tape eventually made its way to Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour via a common acquaintance.
He was so taken aback that he had Bush record three songs and had Andrew Powell, a friend of his, expertly mix the tape. Terry Slater, an executive at EMI, then signed Bush to his company after receiving the cassette. Bush took some time off after receiving a large advance to train as a mime and take dance classes. She was also the lead singer for the KT Bush Band, a London bar band.
