Until his death in 2013, Roger Joseph Ebert was one of the most well-known film critics in the United States because of his work with the Chicago Sun-Times. From the start of his career, many authors regarded him as one of the top American cinema reviewers in the world due to his obvious talent and passion for writing and film.

Ebert’s battle with cancer lasted for a long time. Throughout his life, he had to undergo treatment for cancers of the jawbone, thyroid, and salivary glands.
Despite losing his jaw and his ability to speak in 2006, Ebert continued his relentless pace, reviewing over 200 films annually for the paper and maintaining a renowned internet presence. He has been writing about his cancer treatment on his blog and Twitter, and two days ago he said he was taking a “leave of presence.”

“At this point in my life, in addition to writing about movies, I may write about what it’s like to cope with health challenges and the limitations they can force upon you,” he wrote. “It really stinks that the cancer has returned and that I have spent too many days in the hospital. So on bad days I may write about the vulnerability that accompanies illness. On good days, I may wax ecstatic about a movie so good it transports me beyond illness.”
In 2011, Ebert was interviewed by Melissa Block of NPR. A memoir titled “Life Itself” was his most recent work. Ebert used a computerized voice to express himself.
Melissa probed him on the trait for which he is most known: Films were reviewed by him and Gene Siskel on their TV show, which aired in the 1960s.
“We were often angry with one another,” he told Melissa. “At other times we were very warm. I think we shared a strong sense of morality about films that offended us, either by their content or their general stupidity.”
Was Roger Ebert Married?
Ebert tied the knot with Charlie Hammersmith in 1992 when he was 50 years old. He said that once his mother passed away, he knew he wanted to be married, so he went ahead and did it at an unusually young age.
In 2002, Ebert was informed that he had thyroid cancer. In addition, he had surgery to remove a cancerous salivary gland. His carotid artery ruptured four years after he underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumor from near his right jaw.
