Authorities reported on Wednesday that three 18-year-old Arvada residents were detained by Jefferson County Sheriff’s investigators in connection with the death of a lady who was killed when a large rock was thrown into her driving vehicle.
Zachary Kwak, 18, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik, 18, and Joseph Koenig, 18, were detained at their residences late on Tuesday or early on Wednesday.
First-degree murder, extreme indifference, and other possible offenses, as assessed by the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office, are among the charges for which they are being detained.
Mark Koenig, Joseph Koenig’s father, was also detained on Tuesday night after allegedly obstructing deputies from entering the home to obtain a search warrant, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley.
He was detained for obstruction, according to Kelley.
At the Jefferson County Courthouse on Thursday morning, the three suspects are set to be informed of the allegations brought against them.
According to a press statement from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, “mobile device forensics and supporting information from the public ultimately helped lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects.”

She was killed in one of several rock strikes that night. Five automobiles were involved in the events, which started about 10 p.m. on April 19 and finished just after midnight on April 20. Minor injuries were sustained by other drivers whose vehicles were struck.
According to the news release, Westminster Police, Arvada Police, and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office all provided assistance in making the arrests.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, investigators “worked around the clock to identify and arrest the suspects responsible for Alexa’s death.”
The suspect car is a black 2016 Chevy Silverado, according to the office, however it’s still not apparent who was behind the wheel throughout the spree. “All three are currently charged with rock-throwing and are suspected of doing so.”
Wednesday morning, a family friend expressed relief at the arrests.
At Commercial Flooring Services in Denver, where Alexa works, Eric Peterson said, “We are appreciative of the work the police have done.” “What they do behind the scenes doesn’t get enough credit,”
In addition to the $2,000 reward from Crime Stoppers, the corporation put up a total of $15,000 as a reward for information that results in the arrest of the perpetrator or suspects.
More healing is now possible, according to Peterson. “We’ve been wondering what happened and who did it. It doesn’t erase the terrible loss. We recall the enjoyable moments, smiles, and laughter.
A coworker of Karol-Chik’s at a lawn care business claimed to be “shocked” to hear of the arrest. He requested anonymity since he hadn’t obtained the family’s consent.
The friend added, “We’re all quite concerned and disturbed about him. I never would have anticipated something like this.
According to the buddy, Karol-Chik completed her coursework online, graduated from Ralston Valley High School early, and worked full-time.
The acquaintance stated, “He went to work all last week and didn’t show any signs of being worried or upset.”
Large boulders resembling those used in landscaping, according to a Jefferson County Sheriff’s spokeswoman last week, were utilized in the assaults.
Public records reveal that a house close to the foothills in Arvada, barely ten minutes away from the scene where Bartell’s body was discovered in a field on Indiana Street, is thought to belong to Zachary Kwak’s family. Late Wednesday morning, the door was unanswered.
