Driver Dean Thompson of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series was injured in a violent collision during the SpeedyCash.com 250 on Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway, and he was taken to a nearby hospital. Before the collision with fewer than 25 laps remaining, the Californian driver, 21, from Anaheim, was having his finest performance of his career.
Thompson, who had been in the top five for the majority of the race and had advanced as far as fourth, was trying to climb back into the top 10 after being shoved back in the field on a late restart when he spun around Turn 4, striking the outside wall before returning to the racing groove.
Trey Hutchens then struck Thompson again after being struck once more broadside by Matt Mills’ approaching truck.

Thompson exited his truck but instantly sank to the ground, where an AMR Safety Team attended to him. Thompson was loaded into an ambulance while being carried on a stretcher, and then transported to the infield care center for observation.
According to Thompson’s team, he was awake and conscious and will be taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center for additional assessment.

Thompson is presently competing in his first full season with TRICON Garage and his second overall in the Truck Series. The run Thompson was on before his injury was by far the best of his career. Thompson’s best performance to date in 28 career starts was an 11th place showing at Las Vegas in 2022.
The most egregious incident in a race that went into double overtime and concluded in another severe collision was Thompson’s accident.
During the last lap, Nick Sanchez, who was vying for the victory with Zane Smith, lost control of his truck entering Turn 1. Sanchez was then turned head-on into the outside wall, killing Smith. Third-place finisher Carson Hocevar sped past the mayhem to take the long-awaited maiden victory of his Truck Series career.
