Corey Conners Prepares For Augusta By Winning The Texas Open

Corey Conners, who is from Canada, won the Texas Open for a second time, which served as excellent preparation for him to compete in the Masters for the sixth time.

To finish on 15 under par, he fired a bogey-free round of four under par 68. This put him one stroke ahead of PGA Tour rookie Sam Stevens, who recorded a 66 at TPC San Antonio with two eagles.

Matt Kuchar finished tied for third with Sam Ryder, who had a 66, after shooting a 69 and carding three birdies in his final three holes to end with 13 under par.

“I was quite steady throughout the entire day. That was a fierce struggle. The circumstances were not an easy one, “remarked Conners, who is now 31 years old.

“It was undeniably a fight, but we had a great time doing it. I still can’t believe I won here for the second time.”

Conners, who won this championship in 2019, started the day one stroke behind the leader Patrick Rodgers, who closed with a 73 to finish fifth on 11 under. Conners eventually won by one stroke and finished the day 11 under.

After Stevens, who was playing in the group in ahead of him, hit an errant second shot to the left of the par-five 18th green, he was forced to wait for a good ten minutes on the final fairway before he could continue.

Conners just needed a par to win, which he achieved despite missing the green with his second shot and chunking his chip onto the green. The American chipped to within eight feet of the hole but missed the birdie putt, which meant that Conners needed a par to win.

Nonetheless, he was able to win and collect his second PGA Tour championship by making two putts for par from a distance of thirty feet.
