A man wanted in connection with a shooting in Gaston County has been returned to North Carolina through extradition from Florida.
In Gaston County, Robert Singletary is charged with shooting a father and harming his 6-year-old daughter. He traveled to Tampa, according to police, before handing himself up.
The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office transported Singletary to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa, Florida, just after 6:15 a.m. on Saturday in order to arrest him and extradite him back to North Carolina.
He was taken into custody at the Gaston County Jail shortly after 6 o’clock on Saturday and will be held without bond.
Four counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill or seriously injure, one count of firearm possession by a felon, and one count of interfering with an electric monitoring device have been brought against Singletary.
He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance in Gaston County Superior Court on Tuesday, May 2nd, at 9:30 a.m.

The family announced that they will be present when Robert Singletary appeared before a Gaston County judge for the first time to answer to accusations of attempted murder. But it was nerve-racking for them to wait for responses from the hearing on Thursday, which was 8 hours and 511 miles away.
To deliver a message to the judge on Thursday, Carolynn Hilderbrand wished to be present.

She pleaded with them not to let him go. Let him receive the due punishment for all of his wrongdoing.
She is concerned because Singletary was detained in Gaston County in December on suspicion of a serious assault. For that charge, he received an unsecured bond. Then, according to police, he pulled a gun last week and twice chased neighbors near April Drive while shooting with kids nearby.

The front yard of Hilderbrand was the scene of the shooting. One bullet fragment entered her son-in-law’s back and entered her 6-year-old granddaughter’s cheek.
It still occupies a significant portion of my thoughts, and it probably always will, Hilderbrand said. Most likely, I’ll never forget that.
Hilderbrand claimed that although no one was hurt in the incident, nothing will ever be the same again.
She remarked, “I’ll probably never be at peace.” “I’ll probably be checking behind me.”
Singletary was apprehended by police in the Tampa Bay region after his family pleaded with him to come forward. Hilderbrand was relieved to learn that Singletary’s hearing had only lasted long enough to confirm a date and time for his return to North Carolina.
Hilderbrand stated, “He needs to face what he did.
By May 8, Gaston County police must arrange for Singletary’s transportation. They are making an effort to bring him back and before a judge in this location.
