On Saturday afternoon in the Wood County village of Saratoga, a 57-year-old lady drowned in the Wisconsin River.
Nancy Brost of Nekoosa, Wisconsin, was identified as the victim by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.
The Wood County Central Dispatch got a report of a person in the Wisconsin River about north of Wakely Road in the township of Saratoga just before 1 o’clock on Saturday. The person was rescued from the sea and brought to land by the caller, according to the sheriff’s office.
Brost was declared dead by the responding paramedics. Officials from the sheriff’s office stated that the drowning had no unusual circumstances, although the investigation is still underway.
On Saturday, there were other incidents on the Wisconsin River as well.

At at 5:48 p.m., someone saw a person in the river close to West Washington Street Bridge and called for assistance. Wausau Police responded. The woman was rescued from the water by responding police officers who were on patrol in the neighborhood.
Life-saving procedures were carried out by Wausau Police and Fire Department Emergency Medical staff. According to Wausau Police Department Lt. Luis Lopes Serrao, the woman was taken to Aspirus Hospital and was given a stable condition rating.
The woman’s identify has not been made public by Wausau police.
