A Fox spokesperson stated on Wednesday that the network will be “ready to defend” itself against a similar lawsuit from a second voting system vendor. This comes a day after Fox News agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle a defamation complaint launched by Dominion Voting Systems.
Following the historic Dominion settlement, the company Smartmatic released a statement on Tuesday reiterating its dedication to its own action, claiming that “Dominion’s litigation exposed some of the misbehavior and harm caused by Fox’s disinformation campaign. Smartmatic will reveal the remainder.
According to a statement from Smartmatic’s lawyer, J. Erik Connolly, “Smartmatic remains committed to clearing its name, recouping the significant harm done to the company in more than 50 countries, and holding Fox accountable for undermining democracy.”
When the lawsuit goes to trial, most likely in 2025, Fox reacted in a statement released on Wednesday, stating, “We will be ready to defend this case around extraordinarily newsworthy events.
Our financial expert’s study demonstrates that Smartmatic’s damages claims are improbable, unrelated to reality, and on the surface aimed to restrict First Amendment rights.

Florida-based Smartmatic is suing Fox News, For $2.7 billion, Fox paid hosts Maria Bartiromo and Jeanine Pirro, former Fox host Lou Dobbs, and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani. It was brought in February 2021.
There are still at least seven defamation cases involving Fox News or Dominion Voting Systems that are connected to statements made in the media about the 2020 election.
Dominion is still pursuing six further defamation lawsuits against a variety of other people it claims similarly promoted false allegations, including right-wing network Newsmax, former Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, among others, and Dominion is also pursuing six additional lawsuits against the media.
Following the Fox News settlement on Tuesday, Stephen Shakelford, Dominion’s attorney, remarked, “We have some other people who have some accountability coming towards them.” We haven’t finished yet.
