Who is Phil Mickelson’s Wife?
With 45 victories on the PGA Tour, Phil Mickelson is widely considered to be one of the sport’s all-time greats. While the experienced golfer’s career has received extensive media attention, his longstanding relationship with his wife Amy Mickelson has been mostly overlooked.
Phil and Amy first met in 1992 as fellow ASU students; they eventually tied the wedding on November 16, 1996. Phil posted a touching photo and comment to Instagram in honor of his wife Amy on the occasion of their 22nd wedding anniversary in 2018:
“I am so appreciative to have Amy as my partner in life. Her grace, charm, kindness, laugh, smile, and brilliance have made me the luckiest man in the world. Thank you, my love, for sharing our lives together.”

Who is Amy McBride?
She went as Amy McBride before adopting the surname Mickelson. She joined the world in 1974, making her a year younger than Phil Mickelson. She also attended Arizona State University. She first met Mickelson in 1992, while she was living there.
Amy had no idea Phil Mickelson was such a renowned golfer until much later. She probably assumed he worked at a golf equipment showroom or store when he told her that, as he left out the “distinguished” bit.
Can you believe that Phil and Amy Mickelson’s first date was on a tennis court? Phil was a senior and Amy a junior when this took place. She also participated in the Phoenix Suns’ cheerleading squad.
Amy Mickelson’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2009 was a sad event. Phil Mickelson sat out of the PGA Tour tournaments this season. Obviously, he used that time to take care of her.
And then came back the next year, in 2010. Only in 2010 did Phil Mickelson become the third player in Masters history to wear the Green Jacket.
Amy Mickelson spent 11 months fighting breast cancer. By the time it was over, she had made a full recovery. She then resolved to engage in breast cancer awareness and prevention fundraising.

Amy and Phil Established a Charity Together
Together with the PGA Tour, the pair established the charity Birdies for the Brave in 2004. The organization’s mission is to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate the men and women of the United States armed forces and their families.
The Mickelson family’s military outreach program started out as a way to help injured service members. The Tournament Players Club claims to have expanded over the years to raise money for more military homefront charities that “provide direct services for military members, veterans, and their families, ranging from financial aid and rehabilitation programs to housing, counseling, educational scholarships, career development, and recruitment.”
In a PGA Tour video, Amy said that when the United States first went to war, she and Phil felt “that initial tug that everyone was feeling” of wanting to help in some way. “It’s sort of a helpless feeling like ‘I want to do something, but I don’t know what.’ We certainly wanted to do our share to recognize and help our military families,” she said.
In the same year that Birdies for the Brave was established, the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation was established as a private foundation dedicated to helping children and families.
