The Police Arrested A 16-year-old Third Suspect In The Shooting Fatalities Of Three Teenagers In Marion County

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports that 16-year-old Tahj Brewton, who was wanted for almost a week after he and two other children were allegedly involved in the killing of three minors discovered in the Ocklawaha region, has been taken into custody.

Brewton, who had a $10,000 reward given at the time for his arrest, was apprehended on Saturday near Groveland with the assistance of U.S. Marshals and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, according to a Facebook post updated Sunday and published by ClickOrlando.com.

According to the sheriff’s office, the arrest was made in accordance with active warrants for carjacking with a handgun, aggravated assault, grand theft of a vehicle, evading or attempting to evade a law enforcement officer, and tampering with an electronic monitoring device.

According to the post, additional charges would be filed after the homicide investigation.

Billy Woods, the sheriff of Marion County, promised to find Brewton during the same news conference he held on Friday to announce the arrests of 12-year-old Christopher Atkins and 17-year-old Robert Robinson in relation to the killings.

“I’m speaking to the audience. Some of you know Brewton, and you need to turn him in since you know where he is. Now, I’ll locate him, I’ll catch him, and justice will be served,” Woods declared.

According to Woods, the incident involved young people who were gang members going rogue.

Despite the fact that we had stated that it was gang-related, Woods added, “We have nothing particular to show that it was any rivalry.” But every single one of them is connected to a gang in some way, shape, or form. In essence, these three people killed our three victims because they turned on us at some time since there is no honor among criminals.

According to Woods, Robinson and Atkins admitted to shooting a female inside the trunk of a car that was discovered partially submerged in a pond while allegedly using stolen firearms.

A male adolescent was discovered dead from an apparent gunshot wound the next day in a Chevy Cruze that belonged to Layla Silvernail, 16, who passed away after being discovered injured on the side of a road on March 30.

Six people were in the Chevrolet at the time of the incident, according to investigators: Robinson, Atkins, Brewton, and the three victims.

Robinson was taken into custody at a juvenile detention center the morning after the slaying following a “affray” at school, while Atkins was taken into jail at his home on Thursday after a search warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.

First-degree murder charges have been brought against Robinson and Atkins.
