After exchanging gunfire with the driver during a traffic check, two Wisconsin police officers were murdered on Saturday.
A traffic stop was made by a Chetek Police officer in the Wisconsin community of Cameron just before 3:40 p.m. local time, claims the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
A Cameron police officer and a Chetek police officer were both shot during the traffic stop. At the scene, both cops were declared deceased.
The other shooter was taken to the hospital, where they passed away as a result of their wounds.
There was no threat to the public as a result of the incident, according to a news release from the Wisconsin DOJ.
The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, with assistance from the Barron County Sheriff’s Office, Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin State Crime Lab, and a DCI Crime Response Specialist, is in charge of the investigation into the shooting, according to the press release.

The Barron County District Attorney will receive investigative reports after the investigation is complete.
In Wisconsin, several law enforcement organizations have sent their condolences in the wake of the deaths of the two police officers. Social media posts of support were made by the Hudson Police Department, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, the Milwaukee Fire Honor Guard, and the Village of East Troy Police Department.
